Tour de France Exhibition
Here at the Old Red, to celebrate the Tour de France, we've organised a small exhibition of huge, great-big photographs spanning 50 years of the competition. You certainly don't have to like cycling to enjoy the spectacle. With the biggest image at over three and a half metres long, there's lots of detail to enjoy! Click here to read more about the works included.
Simon's Blog Updated
Offside Sports Photographer Simon Stacpoole keeps us updated from Brazil with his blog summarising the French and German Quarter final! There's some touching pictures in this one, particularly for Arsenal fans! Click HERE to read it.
Neil Young After-party Disclaimer!
Just to be clear, despite what this poster says - Neil Young is in fact NOT attending this after party. We have, however, all learnt a very important lesson about sarcasm and posters. Apologies for the mass confusion caused by this joke.
Comedy Commentary More Dates!
We're delighted to announce that The Illustrated Game have added two more dates to their Comedy Commentary World Cup schedule, and both are to be held at the Old Red! Check out our Comedy Commentary page for the upcoming dates... CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO.
Our resident friendly photographer in Brazil, Mr Simon Stacpoole, has offered up some further goodies in the form of his most recent blog. Despte England crashing out of the World Cup, many of the fans seemed to enjoy the final game against Costa Rica, some perhaps enjoyed it a bit too much! Have a read of his latest piece HERE to get the full picture.
England Losers Party!
Yeah, we're pretty bummed that England are out of the World Cup. However, we don't see it as the time to stop partying. We'll quit having fun when the whole tournament is over! Until then, let us celebrate our monstrous national failure - because apathy is better together! Join us for an evening of pimms, pies, music and football. It's going to get mad England cray cray in the Old Red Lion this Tuesday (from 5pm) so don't miss out, regardless of your feelings towards England! All nations welcome, the more the merrier.
Simon Stacpoole returns with a fifth blog submission from Brazil. This particular piece focuses on England's loss to Uruguay and subsequent next day exit from the tournament. Please CLICK HERE to have a read!
Sad Red Lion
It was a tough night to say the least! England on the brink of crashing out, the first time the team have ever lost their first two games in the World Cup. Despite everyone feeling a bit sad about the result of the game, we're pleased to say that everyone in the pub seemed to have had a great evening out! Providing Italy can do the good deed this evening then we'll be really looking forward to Tuesday night's game with Costa Rica! Come on England!

Simon continues his journey, this time heading over to the jungle stadium of Manaus! Read about his journey up the Amazon, meeting some locals and enjoying England's opening game against Italy! CLICK HERE to read it!
Simon Stacpoole; our man (and Offside Sports Photography's!) in Brazil. From reading, it seems like Simon has enjoyed an eventful few days! Check out his most recent blog on the opening ceremony and first games of this years World Cup. Click HERE to read the blog.

A Photographer's World Cup Blog
Alongside our exciting Offside World Cup Exhibition this summer, we'll also be given the chance to follow a sports photographer live in Brazil via this blog! Simon Stacpoole is a sports photographer working for Offside. He's their designated man for this year's World Cup in Brazil and he's very kindly offered to share his experiences and travels with us in the format of a blog!
This blog will offer a truly unique insight into the world's most popular sporting event. Simon has all areas access to all of the stadium's taking part in the tournament and will be able to keep readers updated on not only the sporting news but also the general feel in the country! The blog will be updated every few days and will be available to read here, on Simon's Wordpress AND on MatchPint's special WC blog.
Panini Sticker Swapping Event
Wednesday 18th June - 7pm
Panini stickers have enjoyed a remarkably resurgence in popularity this year, for the Brazil World Cup tournament. So much so that the sticker books themselves ran out of print and are now collectables alone!
This event will involve the casual swapping of stickers, alongside the suggested drinking of beer. It's during the first full week of the WC, so there'll be loads of football on (in fact there's a Comedy Commentary event at 5pm the same day).
Thanks be to Mr Edward Shepherd for demanding this event.
Comedy Commentary Returns!
Comedy Commentary returns World Cup style for four (possibly more) very special and hilarious international games. DON'T MISS IT PEOPLE - here's the list of games with special comedy coverage:
-Australia vs. Netherlands @ 5pm on Wednesday 18th June.
-Colombia vs. Ivory Coast @ 5pm on Thursday 19th June.
-Nigeria vs. Argentina @ 5pm on Wednesday 25th June.
-USA vs. Germany @ 5pm on Thursday 26th June.
World Cup Photography Exhibition
06/06/14 - 18/07/14
Throughout this year's tournament in Brazil, The Old Red Lion Theatre Pub will play host to a photographic exhibition of history of the World Cup. The show will exhibit the work of Mark Leech, voted the Premier League's best photographer, alongside a number of other talented and historical sports photographers. With images dating back to the 1930's and the first ever World Cup, this exhibit truly celebrates the wonder of the competition. A collection that includes the only legitimate, colour photographs taken at the 1966 World Cup final is not to be missed!

This roller-coaster read will have you in tears, stitches or both. Poems, pints, sonnets and snifters... don't miss this life-enhancing, life-giving event.

It's Up For Grabs Now!
Bank Holiday Monday 26th May
Ladies an Gentlemen, Gunners and Gooners - on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26th, here at the Old Red Lion we'll be celebrating the events of 25 years ago. On that fateful day, Arsenal beat Liverpool in the last game of the season to secure the league! In the Old Red we'll be screening that game, showing the seasons highlights in 10 minutes and playing the soundtrack to the 1997 film Fever Pitch as well as some other Arsenal classics! Why not continue the F.A Cup celebrations and head over to us on Bank Holiday Monday from 3pm!
Eurovision Song Contest
That's right folks. This Saturday 10th May we'll be showing the Eurovision Song Contest live on our big screen. Do we like trashy Europop? No, not really, but we do enjoy all of the ornate and well thought out costumes, like the ones you can see in this picture from Moldova's 2011 entry. Why not head over, have a few drinks, and join us in laughing at strange and unusual things on the TV.
False Nine Pubcast #5
The False Nine boys return for one final time this season on Sunday 18th May, the day after the F.A Cup final! They will be doing a season review pubcast and will be accompanied by Musa Okwonga, Nassos Stylianou & Francis Gene-Rowe for sure, and one other guest to be announced - the boys will be chatting about the F.A Cup final & rounding up the season as a whole! Everything kicks off at 5.30pm and is preceded by a Subbuteo tournament taking place in the pub downstairs from 1.30pm. Both events are free, we'll see you there! (Below is the result of pubcast #4 - have a listen an enjoy!)

The Ukes of Westminster
This Friday from 6pm we're being treated to the wonders of the Ukes of Westminster. With their smooth harmonies and scrumptious strumming, they're sure to be an absolute delight. Have a watch of the video below!
This Easter, the Old Red is getting holier than thou and resurrecting some sweet soul just for you. Join us on Saturday 19th from 9pm for a special set from Dermot Kelly. Dermot is a singer/songwriter performing a mixture of modern and traditional jaunts. On Sunday you can enjoy a nice pint of biblical Guinness and relax to the folkish sounds of our Irish session band from 8pm. We suggest you take Monday & Tuesday off work as it'll probably take you three days to rise again (we're very sorry for this awful punning).
If Sabotage Times says it, you should definitely go! #ComedyCommentary - Saturday 29th March, Manchester United vs. Aston Villa 12.45.
Here at the Old Red, we're messing around with the idea of starting a casual Subbuteo night in the pub. It's been a long time since we've played, so whilst we look up the rules - why not get in touch with us if you'd be interested in this idea? Tweet us or leave us a message on Facebook and let us know if this would be your sort of thing. The more messages we get, the more likely we are to do it.

The False Nine's Live Pubcast!
Our friends over at The False Nine joined us yesterday for our (and theirs!) first ever live audience podcast, or pubcast! The boys joined us for the Chelsea vs. Manchester United game, then popped upstairs to chat about the week with guests Musa Okwonga and James McNicholas. We had a lovely time, as did the audience - so a future pubcast looks on the cards. Throw a follow over to @IllustratedGame and @The_False_Nine for updates in that department!
